Preparing for Your Medical Check Up
It is essential for you to do the following to ensure that your medical check up result will be useful and optimal: (1) comply with the requirements for the types of check up, (2) prepare to do a 10-12 hour fast if necessary, (3) provide the correct personal information if needed, including the list of medicines consumed and your family history, (4) it is highly recommended to take the test in the morning when your body has not yet performed some activities.
In addition, dr. Almaycano Ginting, M.Kes., Expert' s Assistant in the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry, University of North Sumatra (USU), highly recommends that patients who will take a medical check up should do the following:
- Get enough sleep prior to the medical check up
- Do not consume certain foods excessively. Some foods can affect the test results.
- Follow the instruction, if you have to fast for 10-12 hours, you must calculate precisely how long you fast from the last time you eat your meal until the test time.
- Do not smoke or drink alcohol.
"We have to make sure first whether the patient is categorized into a high-risk group to decide the specific medical check up required by the patient. In this case, it is better that the patient consults the doctor before taking a medical check up, so the test result can be more efficient and beneficial," dr. Almaycano reminded.
