High cholesterol disorder often occurs with no symptoms, so that early preventive efforts must be carried out to live longer. Some risk factors worth noted yet uncontrollable are age, sex, and genetics, aside from other controllable factors:

Cholesterol level in children until their puberty commonly increases drastically, reaching a certain level to then decreases back into normal. Then, it will rise again in their adulthood due to the disruption of balance in their body' s metabolic functions or the excessive intake of food.
The children with abnormal cholesterol levels, caused by metabolic disorder like experienced by obese children, will further be exposed to heart diseases in their adulthood.
During the puberty, men tend to have a higher level of cholesterol, since their HDL level is lower. It is compared to women, who have the protecting estrogen hormone which maintains the high level of HDL. However, after the menopause, women lose their estrogen hormone, leading to the drop of HDL level. The levels of LDL and triglyceride also increase concurrently. As a result, they are at the same risk with men of having heart diseases.
The genetic factor is a big deal in governing one' s blood cholesterol levels. Determining whether someone has low HDL, high LDL and triglyceride, or a high level of other lipoproteins, that is. When the family possesses the history of hypercholesterol, it is also possible that the members have a high level of cholesterol, particularly LDL. This condition might lead to the high risk of premature heart disease.
The children with the family background of having premature heart disease must assess their level of cholesterol upon reaching the age of two.
People who are at risk of having high cholesterol are those who adopt an inactive lifestyle. Obese people with their protruding belly also have similar chance to suffer from it.
Therefore, try to control it by doing exercise regularly. Another bad habit, such as smoking, must be avoided since it will reduce the level of good cholesterol and contribute in building up lipid in the wall of heart arteries. In addition, avoid alcohol for it increases the level of triglyceride within blood.
The diet incorporating saturated fat and trans fat is the foremost cause of the increasing cholesterol levels within blood, particularly the LDL. Balance it by eating fiber-rich foods that are able to help block the absorption of the fat in the intestine.
Besides, consume less food with high carbohydrate, since excessive sugar can rise the level of triglyceride.
