Did you know that hepatitis is not only caused by hepatitis A, B, C, and D viruses, but also by the body' s immune system that attacks the liver cells? The immune system in your body is supposed to fight against the unidentified foreign materials, such as virus or bacteria. However, in some cases, the immune system misidentifies the body cells and attacks them as enemies, thus causes inflammation.
The condition where your body immune system attacks the liver cells is called autoimmune liver disease (ALD). To figure out whether or not someone is having ALD, the doctor commonly puts aside first the other causes of hepatitis, such as viral infection, fatty liver disease, and so on, and conducts the antibody test. The autoimmune liver diseases include Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH) and Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC) other than Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC).
To help the doctor determine whether or not someone is having autoimmune liver disease, a number of laboratory tests are required to detect the occurrence of autoantibody (the condition where the antibody attacks the cells). Therefore, per 1 October 2017, Prodia provides the proALD panel to support detection of autoimmune liver disease and also the AMA M2 (autoantibody) test as the advanced examination upon the positive AMA result in the proALD. We expect that with these proALD and AMA M2 panels Prodia can bring better health to Indonesia.
