According to dr. Saunderajen, Sp.S, M.Si. Med, dementia is not easy to diagnose. In addition to its various triggers, there are many diseases that have similar symptoms to dementia. Generally, after examining the medical records and checking the family record, physicians will do a physical examination and a number of supporting tests, such as:

  1. Cognitive and neuropsychological tests

Examining the ability to think, remember, orient, asses, concentrate, and speak.

  1. Neurological test

Examining the motor, balancing, tasting, and reflex skills. This test is to determine whether the disease is Alzheimer or Parkinson.

  1. Scanning

Examining the brain muscle, tissue, and nerve through CT scan, MRI, EEG, and PET scan.

  1. Spinal fluid analysis

To examine any infection or inflammation in the nervous system.

  1. Psychiatric tests

This test is conducted if the patient is depressed by not willing to speak, stay quiet, or showing unpleasant behavior which can affect the brain health.
