Diabetes is one of the most dangerous and deadly diseases in the world. One of the reasons is poor sugar control. According to a study from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in 2015, there were 415 million people worldwide suffering from diabetes, and about 10 million of those are in Indonesia. The number of diabetics in Indonesia is expected to continue to increase until 2040.
Due to this data, it is not surprising if many people are afraid of diabetes. Diabetes often develops without any warning symptoms. In fact, people may not realize that they have diabetes. When left untreated, diabetes may lead to complications that slowly affect vital organs resulting the conditions such as blindness, stroke, as well as heart and kidney failures. Many diabetics find out about their condition once the complications occur.

People with a family history of diabetes will definitely be more concerned than those without. However, with the increasing amount of information about the causes of diabetes and its treatment, people start to be more aware to avoid things that can increase the risk of developing diabetes.

Some precautions which are often implemented by the community begin with maintaining a diet, for example by reducing the consumption of food with too much sugar, limiting alcoholic beverages, and consuming lots of vegetables and fruits. The community was encouraged to stop smoking and take exercises. Information on the routine health checkup is one of the efforts to prevent diabetes.

As health technology develops, the available health checkups are increasingly up-to-date. One of them is the gene-based test. Using the test, we can find out the risk of diseases inherited through genes. In addition, we can also find out the risk of disease that we might experience as a result of an unhealthy lifestyle. Not having a family history of diabetes does not necessarily mean that you do not have the risk of developing diabetes.

As the next generation healthcare provider, Prodia provides the first genomic test in Indonesia that can detect the risk of diabetes and diabetes-related diseases, named DIArisk. DIArisk is a gene-based test that analyzes approximately 100 genes and variants to determine the risk factors of diabetes and diabetes-related diseases. The type of diabetes which can be identified with the DIArisk test is the risk of type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy). While the complications which also can be identified are diabetic neuropathy and nephropathy. DIArisk test can also identify the risk factors for obesity, abnormalities of lipid metabolism, and chronic kidney disease.

It should be noted that this test does not necessarily detect diabetes in individuals. By knowing the risk of gene-based diseases, it will help people in determining prevention strategies and personal treatment in order to avoid diabetes.

Based on the result of the DIArisk test, the disease risks will be grouped into high risk, potential risk, average risk, and low risk, which are the reflection of a person's vulnerability. DIArisk test is recommended for individuals aged 18 to 30, because during this period, people can predict the disease risk with accuracy and focus more on diabetes prevention strategy intervention as early as possible.

DIArisk is provided by Prodia to help reduce the incidence of diabetes in Indonesia. Additionally, DIArisk may become the choice of the community in taking preventive actions against the risk of diabetes and its complications. The community can also reduce medical expenses because DIArisk is only needed once in a lifetime. DIArisk is useful for identifying the risk of disease based on the genetic profiles. In other words, DIArisk is a preventive test which serves as a warning for individuals to be more careful before it is too late.

Don't wait until you have diabetes. Prevent it and get checked now.
