Different Types of Tests Mean Different Time to Deliver Your Test Result

In Prodia Clinical Laboratory, the laboratory turnaround time is called waktu selesai hasil pemeriksaan (WSHP). WSHP in Prodia depends on the types of tests and the tools used to process the test specimen. WSHP receives special attention in Prodia because interval between the test being done and the result being reported to the patient determines the promptness of advanced treatment required for the patient.

WSHP strongly depends on the types of test taken by the patients. Therefore, there are some tests that may be completed and reported within only few hours, while some others may take several days after the test.

Procedure of WSHP in Prodia

  • The patient comes to Prodia to perform a laboratory or non-laboratory test.
  • The service personnel identifies what type of test the patient will take, and whether it is possible to take specimen or not.
  • The specimen is delivered to specimen distribution section, and later its identity and condition requirement will be checked. Afterwards, the processes of centrifuging and aliquoting are performed.
  • The laboratory officer will distribute the specimen to technical section to process.
  • After a result is generated, the next stage is multilevel validation, starting from analysis to the disposition of the adjacent task to laboratory supervisor.
  • Final validation is performed by a quality validator and doctor in charge.
  • Following the final validation, the result will be printed in the form of HPsL and distributed to service section.

Test result validation

When the test result is released, it will not be directly delivered to the patient because it requires a validation beforehand. The process of validation aims to reassure the conformity of the result to the patient's record in order to prevent inappropriateness or even mistake within the test result.

Validation is divided into pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical validation stages.

  1. Pre-analytical validation is performed to verify whether there is any possible mistakes of specimen, specimen's type, volume, drawing time, therapy or clinical symptom.
  2. Analytical validation is performed to ensure that the test result is accurate by considering the test method, interference, linearity and reference value. It also determines whether the released result needs a retest or not.
  3. Post-analytical validation is conducted to verify the correlation of the overall laboratory result, being related to the clinical condition of the patient. Within this stage, the validation involves the quality validator and doctor in charge.

Make sure that the result will be ready in time as promised, thus, an advanced treatment may be taken quickly and accurately.
