Jakarta, 6 November 2017 - The strategy of PT Prodia Widyahusada Tbk (ticker symbol: PRDA) to be the Next Generation Healthcare Provider is proven by the launch of newest test called "ProSafe" . ProSafe is one of the superb diagnostic tests to identify chromosome abnormalities on fetus using pregnant mothers' blood sample. Chromosome abnormalities in a fetus can be identified during pregnancy. The most common chromosome abnormality such as Down syndrome, Patau syndrome, Edward syndrome, Klinefelter syndrome, and Turner syndrome could be identified using this Prodia' s ProSafe.
Managing Director of Prodia, Dewi Muliaty affirmed that the ProSafe launch is in accordance with the Company' s vision to be the Next Generation Healthcare Provider. "Prodia is committed to innovation to improve the quality of healthcare services in Indonesia. We' ll further add other diagnostic tests to fulfill our customers' growing needs while prioritizing Prodia' s competitive advantages," said Dewi in Jakarta, Monday (6/11).
Among those chromosome abnormalities, Down syndrome is the most common genetic chromosomal disorder. Down syndrome is a condition of physical and mental defectiveness in children caused by the abnormalities in the chromosome development. Chromosome is a genetic unit found in the nucleus of most living cells that is constructed by DNA and protein. Normal people will have two copies of chromosome 21, while people with Down syndrome have three copies of chromosome 21. This extra copy of chromosome is the characteristic of Down syndrome or also known as Trisomy 21. By conducting the ProSafe test, chromosome abnormality causing Down syndrome can be detected even before a baby is born.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there is one baby with Down syndrome per 1,000 births to one baby per 1,100 births worldwide. Every year, approximately 3,000 to 5,000 babies are born with this defectiveness. WHO predicts that there are 8 million people with Down syndrome worldwide. Based on the result of the Basic Health Research conducted by Indonesia' s Ministry of Health, the prevalence Down syndrome was equal to 0.12 percent in 2010. However, the number reached 0.13 percent in 2013. In 2013, there were 58 cases per 1,000 births with 1 baby with Down syndrome per 700 births.
Prodia' s Marketing Director, Indriyanti Rafi Sukmawati said that ProSafe is conducted using the newest technology Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) from Illumina, San Diego, USA. "Using broader sequencing phase, ProSafe has a 99,99% accuracy rate. ProSafe is a non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT) for pregnant mothers by using the mother' s blood, so it' ll be comfortable for the mothers and fetuses. ProSafe is most beneficial to give an accurate result even in a pregnancy with twins," explained Indriyanti.
Furthermore, Indriyanti explained that ProSafe could be conducted at 10 weeks pregnant. In the developed countries, the NIPT has been a mandatory test for all pregnant women with no age limitation.
Prodia has started the ProSafe diagnostic in Bandung, Denpasar, Batam, Jakarta, and several other areas. By early 2018 Prodia will offer the ProSafe diagnostic test for the customers in all branches.
